Getting Started with MsgStack.
MsgStack is open source and always will be. Self-host it, fork it, extend it — your canon never leaves your infrastructure. There is no hosted product and no paid tier, just a protocol for grounding AI on your organizational truth.
Up and running in three steps
MsgStack runs anywhere Python runs. Pick up the MCP server, connect it to your AI client, and start loading your canon.
Self-host in minutes
Clone the repo and run with Docker or Python. No cloud account, no API keys required to get started.
git clone https://github.com/abidc/msgstack-mcp && cd msgstack-mcp && docker compose up -d msgstack-mcp
Connect to Claude Desktop
Add MsgStack to your Claude configuration file. Point it at your local instance or the public demo server.
{ "mcpServers": { "msgstack": { "url": "https://mcp.abidc.dev/mcp" } } }Structure your canon
Upload a PDF, a spec doc, or a brand guide. MsgStack parses it into a queryable, version-locked knowledge graph.
What MsgStack is
- ✓An open-source MCP server you self-host
- ✓A structured knowledge graph for organizational truth
- ✓A governance layer between your docs and your AI agents
- ✓Apache-2.0 licensed — use it, fork it, ship it
What it isn't
- ✕A proprietary or commercial service
- ✕A paid tier or freemium product
- ✕A vendor lock-in play
- ✕A black box — the full source is on GitHub
Keep up with the project
MsgStack is actively developed. New grounding schemas, MCP tooling improvements, and canon model changes ship regularly. Subscribe to hear about them when they land — nothing else.
Stay in the loop
No product announcements, no sales. Just occasional updates as we ship new grounding schemas, MCP tooling, and release notes.
About this project
MsgStack was created by Abid Chaudhry to solve the problem of AI drift in complex organizations. It is and will remain fully open source — because the fundamental layer of organizational truth should belong to you, not a vendor.
